AI visibility for businesses that need to be named

AI visibility means whether AI systems understand, trust and name your business when people ask for a recommendation. Findable measures that visibility for UK local businesses, improves the evidence those systems can read, and checks the same questions again after four weeks.

The definition

What is AI visibility?

AI visibility is whether an AI system names your business when a customer asks it a question you could answer. When someone asks ChatGPT, Gemini or Google’s AI for a plumber in their town, the answer is a short paragraph with two or three businesses in it. You are either one of those names or you are not.

It is a different measurement from a search ranking. A ranking is a position in a list of links; AI visibility is a place in an answer, drawn from the sources the engine read and trusted for that question. A business can rank well, be listed on the right directories, and still never be named.

Because answers vary between engines and between runs, it is measured by asking a fixed set of customer-style questions, recording who was named and what was cited, and asking the same questions again later. The methodology sets out exactly how.

Findable, in one paragraph

AI visibility services for UK local businesses

Findable is an AI visibility service for UK local businesses. It audits whether a business is named, cited or absent while competitors appear, for the questions its customers ask, on ChatGPT and Gemini, with Google AI Overview recorded where Google shows one. It then works on the website, profile and supporting evidence those systems read, and records the same approved questions again after four weeks.

What happens when a customer asks

From a question to a name

A customer asks an assistant, the assistant answers with a few names, and Findable records who was in that answer and what the engine read to produce it.

  1. Step 1 A customer asks A real question, with the trade and the town in it.
  2. Step 2 The engine answers ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overview where Google shows one.
  3. Step 3 A few businesses are named Two or three, drawn from the sources the engine read.
  4. Step 4 Findable records it Named, cited, listed: the same questions again at week four.
  1. 01 · Understand

Be clear enough to be read

AI systems need usable evidence about what you do, where you work and who you help. A Google ranking or a directory listing alone does not guarantee a recommendation.

  2. 02 · Improve

    Fix the evidence

We work on the pages, service and location clarity, business details, profiles and technical issues that make your business easier for an engine to understand.

  3. 03 · Recheck

    See what changed

After four weeks we ask the same approved questions again. You see a measured comparison, not a vague promise that your AI footprint is better.

The difference between search and answers

Being indexed is not the same as being recommended

Search engines return lists of pages. An AI assistant may return a short answer with only a few businesses named. It draws on multiple sources, including websites and profiles, and needs enough consistent evidence to understand the recommendation it is making.

Being listed somewhere can make a business available to read. It does not mean the business was named. Findable measures both signals separately so the work is aimed at the gap that actually matters.

Read the definitions and limitations in our methodology.

  1. 1 Indexed Search engines can find the page.
  2. 2 Listed Present on a source the engine can read.
  3. 3 Named One of the businesses in the answer.

What Findable measures

Questions real customers might ask

AI visibility audits

A Findable AI visibility audit asks the customer-style questions for your trade and town on ChatGPT and Gemini, records Google AI Overview where Google shows one, and writes down four things for every question:

  • 01 Whether your business is named for relevant customer-style questions.
  • 02 Which websites, directories and other sources are cited in the answers.
  • 03 What ChatGPT and Gemini return, with Google AI Overview where Google shows one.
  • 04 Whether the same measured questions produce a different result after the work.

That second line is how you see which competitors AI recommends instead of you: the audit records the names in each answer, question by question, so the gap is a list of businesses rather than a feeling. The free check does the same for a first set of questions.

The public research shows the broader findings; the methodology explains how to read them; Google AI visibility explains how overviews are recorded.

Why a business can be missed

These are examples we look for, not assumptions about every business:

  • The website does not clearly connect a service with the places it serves.
  • Important services or locations have no useful, crawlable page.
  • Business details and third-party evidence are inconsistent or incomplete.
  • Technical or content issues make important information difficult to read.
  • A competitor has clearer supporting evidence for the same customer question.
  • Existing pages are too thin to answer the local intent properly.

How it works

A measured four-week process

  1. 01

    Baseline

Approve the questions that describe your market and record the starting result.

  2. 02

    Find the gaps

Use the evidence to prioritise pages, clarity, profiles and technical fixes.

  3. 03

    Make the changes

Improve what AI systems can actually read about your business.

  4. 04

    Remeasure

Ask the exact same approved questions after four weeks and compare the result.

Your approved baseline question set is frozen for the comparison. That keeps the before-and-after measurement honest: the questions do not quietly change while the result is being measured.

Questions businesses ask

AI visibility, answered plainly

What is AI visibility?

AI visibility is whether AI systems name or recommend your business when a customer asks a relevant question. It is about being understood and supported by sources an engine can read, not simply having a page indexed.

Is AI visibility the same as SEO?

They overlap, because AI systems read websites and other sources, but they are not the same measurement. SEO is usually about a position in search results; AI visibility is whether your business appears in an answer and which sources support that answer.

Can you guarantee I will appear first?

No. Findable measures change rather than promising a permanent position. Answers vary between engines and runs. The offer measures your starting visibility, makes evidence-led improvements, and checks the same questions again after four weeks.

Which AI systems do you measure?

The core measurement uses ChatGPT and Gemini. Google AI Overview is included where Google shows one, so it is not treated as available for every question.

How long before you measure results?

We take a baseline first, make the agreed improvements, then remeasure after four weeks using the same approved question set and engines.

Do I need a new website?

Not necessarily. We start with what AI systems can already read, then identify the highest-value improvements. That may mean clearer existing pages, new service or location pages, better business evidence, or technical fixes.

What counts as improvement?

We compare how often your business is named in the baseline and remeasurement answers. A citation or directory listing can help an engine read your business, but it is not itself a recommendation or a guarantee of enquiries.
